Speed decides everything in Steal an Egg: which biome you can enter, whether the guard catches you and whether a big egg even makes it back to your base. Below you will find every source of Speed that has been confirmed, and the order in which it makes sense to use them. As of October 2026.
Items for Steal an Egg are in the DzikShop storeIf you are just starting out, first check the beginner's guide to Steal an Egg, because here we focus only on speed.
All Speed sources in one place
According to the game wiki and the guides, you can get Speed in several ways. From the most important:
- Treadmill: the only unlimited and free source. You stand on it and collect Speed, and every upgrade increases your gain.
- Trail: it does not give Speed on its own, it multiplies what you get on the Treadmill. Without a Trail the Treadmill works at half power.
- Pet Index: for every new pet you claim a one-time reward in Speed and money.
- Free gift: 10,000 Speed for liking the game, adding it to your favorites and joining the creator group. The chest stands near the Trail shop and can be claimed once.
- Event boosters: temporary Speed and Treadmill multipliers from the Hungry Monster, Dr. Scramble's shop and the Boss Shop.
- Admin Abuse: events run by the creators, during which players get a big, temporary Speed bonus.
- Robux: Speed packs and multipliers in the game's shop.
Now let's go through which of these really make a difference.
Treadmill times Trail: why multiplying wins
The most important thing to understand: the Treadmill gives Speed and the Trail multiplies it. According to the wiki, the basic Treadmill gives +2 Speed per step, and the cheapest Grey Trail has a 1.5x multiplier and costs $100. For pocket change you instantly get half more from every step.
The higher the Treadmill level, the more a good Trail pays off. An example from the wiki data: the Golden Treadmill gives +80 per step, and with the Golden Trail (3.5x) that becomes 280 per step. The same Treadmill without a Trail trains almost four times slower.
Two traps that the guides mention:
- You have to equip the Trail manually. Just buying it does not turn on the multiplier. Open the Trail shop (on the right side of the safe zone) and click Equip.
- Only one Trail works at a time. The multipliers do not add up, only the equipped one counts.
We wrote out the exact Treadmill levels and the prices of all Trails separately: the Treadmill in Steal an Egg and which Trail to choose.
Order for your first hour of play
The guides do not agree on what to buy first. GAMES.GG goes for the Trail, while Bloxodes and AllThingsHow go for the Treadmill. Since the Trail multiplies the Treadmill, a reasonable compromise looks like this:
- Claim the free gift. 10,000 Speed immediately opens Lake (900) and Desert (10K).
- Buy the Grey Trail for $100 and equip it. There is no cheaper training upgrade in the game.
- Unlock the Treadmill. According to AllThingsHow and GAMES.GG, it appears after the first garden upgrade for $1000.
- Fill your pen with pets. Pets earn money for the next upgrades, and an empty spot earns nothing.
- Buy in turns: Treadmill level, then Trail. Take every upgrade as soon as you can afford it, instead of saving for one huge jump.
The rule is simple: you turn pet money into Speed, and Speed into better eggs that give more money. How to speed up that first part is covered in the article how to earn money in Steal an Egg.
Pet Index: the Speed many people forget
Every pet you hatch for the first time unlocks a reward in the Index. You have to claim it manually: the Index button on the left side of the screen, then Claim. Rewards grow together with the biome. Examples from the pet pages on the wiki:
- Chicken (Forest): +420 Speed,
- Leviathan (Lake): +5K Speed,
- King Snake (Jungle): +18K Speed,
- Lava Dragon (Volcano): +60K Speed,
- Mosasaurus (Prehistoric): +600K Speed,
- Unicorn (Cosmic): +2.4M Speed.
The takeaway: it pays to hatch every pet from a biome at least once, even the weak one. A single reward is not much, but a whole biome can give quite a lot of free Speed.
Free boosters from events
Events in Steal an Egg give temporary speed-ups. It is best to start them right before a longer training session on the Treadmill.
- Hungry Monster: from the Snow biome onward, infected eggs with a purple glow appear. According to the wiki, every feeding fills the monster's belly by 20%, and at 100% it spits out a chest. GAMES.GG says the chest gives, among other things, 1.25x Speed (30% chance) or 2x Treadmill speed (20% chance).
- Dr. Scramble's shop (Experiment Shop): for Samples from the drones you can buy 1.25x Speed for 5 minutes (375 Samples) and a 2x Treadmill Booster for 10 minutes (375 Samples).
- Boss Shop from Rifts: according to the wiki, Boss Tokens buy temporary multipliers for money, Speed and the Treadmill.
Events change with updates, so before you start collecting the currency, check in the game whether the shop still works.
Night is the time to train
According to GAMES.GG and AllThingsHow, you cannot steal eggs at night. Instead of waiting, stand on the Treadmill then. This way no minute of play goes to waste: you steal during the day and train at night.
How much Speed you really need
Biome requirements are the minimum to get in, not to get back safely. A big egg is heavy and slows you down on the way to your base. For bigger eggs, AllThingsHow recommends having about 15-20% of spare Speed. So for Prehistoric (18M) it is better to arrive with 20M or more.
Bloxodes offers a good test: if you reach the egg but lose it on the way back, a higher Speed counter did not solve the problem. You need either a bigger buffer or a smaller egg. You can find the full list of requirements in the article all biomes in Steal an Egg.
Speed and Robux
The game's shop has Speed packs (from +150K to +1B, according to the guides) and Speed multipliers. Prices differ between sources and change with updates, so check them in the game itself. You can reach the final biomes without spending any Robux, it just takes more time.
What does not work
- Codes. Steal an Egg has no codes and not even a box to enter them. Videos promising "Speed codes" are a waste of time.
- The trick of turning off Wi-Fi during a purchase. According to GAMES.GG it does not give free stuff, and the Robux still get charged.
- Switching tabs to double the Hungry Monster rewards. That does not work either.
- Auto-clicker programs. Roblox disconnects you after 20 minutes without any movement. Instead of risking programs that may break the rules, just move the camera once in a while.
Summary
The fastest way to Speed is the free gift, a cheap Trail, the Treadmill, and then upgrading both in turns, supported by Index rewards and event boosters. Train at night, keep a Speed buffer for big eggs and do not believe in codes.
