A Trail in Steal an Egg is a colorful streak behind your character, but its real job happens on the treadmill. The right Trail can make your training several times faster, and the wrong one eats money that is better spent elsewhere. Below is the full list with prices and a tip on which one to get. Status as of October 2026.

How a Trail works

The game's wiki explains it clearly: a Trail multiplies the amount of Speed you gain on the treadmill by a fixed multiplier. Outside the treadmill it gives no extra speed at all. So it will not save you when you run from the guard. It just helps you train the Speed that will.

Three rules:

  • One at a time. Only the equipped Trail works. Equipping a new one replaces the old one.
  • Buying is not everything. After you buy it, you have to equip it in the Trail shop. The button then changes to Unequip.
  • The shop is on the right side of the safe zone. That is how AllThingsHow and GAMES.GG describe it.

How to check that a Trail works

After buying, do a quick test. According to AllThingsHow, an equipped Trail is visible right away: a colorful streak follows your character, and in the shop that Trail shows an Unequip button instead of Equip. If you do not see the streak, the Trail is just sitting in your inventory and does nothing.

The second test: stand on the treadmill and watch the Speed counter in the bottom left corner of the screen (next to the shoe icon). After you equip a better Trail, it should climb noticeably faster than a moment ago.

Full list of Trails

Prices and multipliers are based on wiki data. AllThingsHow and GameBoost give the same values for the first ten:

  1. Grey Trail (Common): 1.5x, $100
  2. Green Trail (Uncommon): 2x, $5K
  3. Blue Trail (Rare): 2.5x, $75K
  4. Purple Trail (Epic): 3x, $1.5M
  5. Golden Trail (Legendary): 3.5x, $30M
  6. Red Trail (Mythic): 4x, $750M
  7. Galaxy Trail (Cosmic): 5x, $20B
  8. Secret Trail (Secret): 7x, $500B
  9. Eternal Trail (Eternal): 10x, $12.5T
  10. Divine Trail (Divine): 14x, $300T
  11. Moonbloom Trail (Divine): 20x, $5Q

Two notes. In its table, AllThingsHow lists $13T for Divine, while the other sources say $300T, so check the price in the game. The Moonbloom Trail is only on the wiki. Update 4 announced a new tier of Trail and treadmill, so this is most likely that addition, but older guides do not know about it.

How much each next Trail really gives

This is where it gets interesting. Let's calculate by how many percent your training grows when you move to the next Trail:

  • Grey to Green: +33%
  • Green to Blue: +25%
  • Blue to Purple: +20%
  • Purple to Golden: +17%
  • Golden to Red: +14%
  • Red to Galaxy: +25%
  • Galaxy to Secret: +40%
  • Secret to Eternal: +43%
  • Eternal to Divine: +40%
  • Divine to Moonbloom: +43%

The takeaway: the middle Trails (Purple, Golden, Red) give smaller and smaller jumps, and from Galaxy up, every next one speeds up your training by 40% or more. On the other hand, prices go up by roughly 20-40 times each time. AllThingsHow advises skipping the marginal middle upgrades and saving for a real jump. That makes sense especially around the Red Trail: if your income is growing fast, sometimes it is better to wait and buy Galaxy right away.

Which Trail at which stage

There is no official chart, but you can match it sensibly to the prices and to how much the pets from each biome earn (wiki data):

  • Forest, Lake, Desert: Grey, then Green. The best pets from these biomes earn from 1.8K to 280K $/s, so Blue ($75K) comes naturally.
  • Jungle, Snow: Blue and Purple. The first Secret pet (King Snake, 3.5M $/s) makes Purple for $1.5M a matter of moments.
  • Volcano, Abyss Ocean: Golden, then Red. Eternal pets from these biomes earn 100M $/s and more.
  • Prehistoric, Cosmic: Galaxy ($20B). With the Unicorn from Cosmic (1B $/s), that is about 20 seconds of one pet's income.
  • Cherry Blossom, Titan Temple: Secret ($500B).
  • Angels & Demons, Enchanted Forest: Eternal, Divine and then Moonbloom.

Treat this as a rough guide, not a strict rule. It all depends on how many pets you have in your pen and what sizes and mutations they have.

Trail or treadmill: which first

Guides disagree here. GAMES.GG says: first the best Trail you can afford. AllThingsHow and Bloxodes say: treadmill first. The truth is somewhere in the middle, because one multiplies the other.

An example from wiki data. The Flame Treadmill gives +12 Speed per step. With the Purple Trail (3x) that is 36 per step. If instead of a Trail you buy the Celebrity Treadmill right away (+30 per step) but stay without a Trail, you get 30 per step, which is less. On the other hand, the Golden Trail on the basic treadmill (+2 per step) is a measly 7 per step.

A practical rule: keep both at a similar level and buy whatever gives the bigger percentage jump for less money at the moment. We described all the treadmill tiers in the article treadmill in Steal an Egg.

Trails for Robux

The higher Trails can also be bought for Robux, but the prices in the sources do not match. AllThingsHow gives a table from 8 Robux for Green to 399 for Divine, GAMES.GG writes about 349, 599 and 999 Robux for Secret, Eternal and Divine, and GameBoost claims that fixed prices have not been published. The only reliable source is the in-game shop. AllThingsHow advises using Robux only when a Trail unlocks a biome you cannot get through, and not for the early tiers, which you will earn quickly anyway.

Where to get money for Trails

You buy every Trail with money from pets, so how fast you can buy depends on your $/s. The most comes from a full pen, big pets with mutations and rewards from the Index. We described it in the article how to earn money in Steal an Egg. The in-game shop also has the X2 Money gamepass (399 Robux), which doubles your earnings. At DzikShop it is available as:

You can play without it, Trails just come more slowly.

Summary

To start, Grey for $100, then Green and Blue, because they are cheap and give a big percentage jump. In the middle of the game do not overpay for every next tier, and from Galaxy up every Trail is a clear speed boost. Remember to equip it after buying, and keep your treadmill at a similar level.
