In Steal an Egg the idea is simple: you sneak eggs away from monsters, hatch pets from them, and the pets earn money for you. This guide shows you where to start and how to avoid losing eggs on the way to your base. As of October 2026.

According to the description on the game's Roblox page, in Steal an Egg you steal eggs from animals and other players, hatch rare pets from them and earn money with those pets. The game loop looks like this:
- You run to a biome and pick up an egg from a nest.
- You run away from the Guardian that protects the nest.
- You place the egg in your Pen and wait for it to hatch.
- The pet earns money every second ($/s).
- With that money you upgrade your base and Treadmill and buy Trails, so you can reach farther biomes.
An egg you lose on the way gives you nothing. Only the egg that makes it to your base counts.
Speed is the foundation
In Steal an Egg the most important stat is Speed. It decides which biomes you can enter and whether you can outrun a Guardian. You get Speed in three ways:
- Free gift: like the game, add it to your favorites and join the creator's community. For all three steps you get 10,000 Speed. Do it right away, because it's a huge boost at the start.
- Treadmill: you stand on it and train. Higher Treadmill levels give a better multiplier.
- Trails: they increase how much Speed you gain on the Treadmill. Careful, according to the wiki they don't make you faster outside the Treadmill. You can only have one equipped at a time.
You can also buy Speed multipliers for Robux in the game, but you can play without them.
All biomes and the Speed they require
Biomes are located farther and farther from your base. The farther you go, the stronger the Guardian and the more valuable the eggs. Requirements according to the wiki (October 2026):
- Forest: no requirements, Guardian is Chicken.
- Lake: 900 Speed, Guardian is Swan.
- Desert: 10K, Guardian is Scorpion.
- Jungle: 40K, Guardian is Tiger.
- Snow: 170K, Guardian is Yeti.
- Volcano: 700K, Guardian is Cerberus.
- Abyss Ocean: 2.5M, Guardian is Moby.
- Prehistoric: 18M, Guardian is T-Rex.
- Cosmic: 700M, Guardian is Cosmic Skeleton.
- Cherry Blossom: 2.5B, Guardian is Oni Tiger.
- Titan Temple: 7B, Guardian is Gorilla King.
- Angels & Demons: 20B. It shows up in one of three versions: Angels, Demons or both at once.
- Enchanted Forest: 50B. The newest and currently hardest biome in the game.
Very important: these are the requirements just to enter. A big egg slows you down, so to get back safely with a bigger prize, you need more Speed than the list says.
How to steal an egg without getting caught
A few rules that will save you some frustration:
- Start in Forest. The wiki and the guides agree: move on to the next biome only when you have a clear Speed buffer.
- Practice in an easy biome. Before you enter biomes with scarier Guardians, practice picking up and carrying eggs where a mistake costs little.
- Watch the clock. Eggs in biomes respawn every 5 minutes. If you're hunting for something rare, it's worth being there when new ones appear.
- Look at the shape, not the color. According to the wiki, an egg's color only changes how the egg and the pet look, not what they earn. Size and rarity are what matter.
Other players steal too
Steal an Egg isn't only about running from monsters. Other players can take your egg before you reach your base:
- Bat: hitting a player who is carrying an egg knocks them down, and the attacker can take their egg.
- Bear trap: a player who steps into it gets stuck for a few seconds and drops the egg.
It works both ways: you can take someone else's egg like this too. The safest thing is to get your egg to your base as fast as possible.
Pet size and mutations
Two pets of the same species can earn completely different amounts of money. Two things decide this:
Size. On the pet's card you can see its weight in kilograms. The bigger the egg, the bigger the multiplier for the pet inside. But a bigger egg is also heavier and slows you down on the way to your base.
Color mutations. According to the wiki, a pet can get a mutation when it hatches:
- Silver: 1.2x, 6 in 100 chance,
- Golden: 2.5x, 4 in 100 chance,
- Rainbow: 3.5x, 1 in 100 chance.
There are also special mutations that you can't get normally, for example Parasite (3x), Fractured and Scrambled (2.75x each). The final income is base income times the mutation multiplier times the size multiplier, so a big Rainbow pet can earn many times more than a regular one.
Hatching and gamepasses
Hatch time depends on the egg. Simple ones are quick, while rare ones can take several hours. Size and mutation matter too.
The game has two gamepasses that directly speed up your progress:
- X2 Growth Speed: eggs grow twice as fast (467 Robux).
- X2 Money: you earn twice as much money (399 Robux).
Both are also available in the Steal an Egg shop at DzikShop:

Events: Dr. Scramble
In updates 5 and 6, Dr. Scramble came to the game. Every 30 minutes his drones drop onto the map, and then he shows up himself in his mech. For defeating them you collect Samples, which you spend in the Experiment Shop, among other things on experiment eggs and the consumable Scrambled mutation.
Update 6 also added the paid Extinction Egg with six extinct animals. When it hatches there is a small chance of a reroll that gives a rare skeletal (Skeletal) version of the animal.
Steal an Egg codes
Short answer: there are none. According to the wiki, the game doesn't even have a box for entering codes. If a site or a video promises codes for free Speed, it's a waste of time and sometimes an attempt at a scam. You can read more about how not to get fooled in the article how not to get scammed when buying Roblox items.
Most common mistakes at the start
- Jumping into a biome with barely enough Speed. You have exactly the Speed the biome requires, you grab a big egg and the Guardian catches you. Always keep a buffer.
- Ignoring the free gift. 10,000 Speed for three clicks is the best start you will get.
- Selling pets without checking. Before you sell a pet at the Sell Shop, look at its size and mutation.
- Running with an egg through a crowd. Where there are lots of players, it's easy to get hit with a bat.
