What are Robux and how to get them? Official ways and traps (2026)

Robux are the currency of the whole of Roblox. You can use them to buy avatar skins, gamepasses, items in games and extras that creators sell in their worlds. A lot changed in 2026: Roblox Premium is gone and Roblox Plus has appeared. Below you'll find the current, official ways to get Robux and a list of traps that catch the most players.

What exactly are Robux

Robux are a virtual currency issued by Roblox. They work in every game on the platform, so the same Robux can be spent in Adopt Me and in Blox Fruits. They aren't tied to one game, only to your account.

According to Roblox Help, there are only two ways to get Robux: buy them from Roblox or earn them as a creator. Everything else is either a gift from someone who bought them, or a scam.

Way 1: buying in Roblox

You can buy Robux in the mobile app, in a browser and in the apps on PlayStation and Xbox One. There's one important thing here that few people know: when you buy on the website, on a computer and with gift cards, you get up to 25% more Robux. Roblox introduced this on 26 November 2024 and says it will stay permanently.

Roblox itself asks younger players to have a parent or guardian help with every purchase. A parent can also set a monthly spending limit, which we cover in our guide to parental controls on Roblox.

Way 2: Roblox gift cards

A gift card is a code that you exchange for Robux or for Roblox Credit (a balance on your account). It's a popular gift because you don't have to enter payment card details.

How to redeem a card

1. Go to roblox.com/redeem in a browser.
2. Log in to the account that should receive the Robux.
3. Enter the code and click Redeem.
4. Wait for the message saying the value was added.

You can't redeem a card in the regular mobile app or on consoles, you have to use a browser (the exception is the app on Samsung Galaxy phones). A code from another country will work too, and the value will be converted to your currency.

When the code doesn't work

Most often the culprits are look-alike characters. Roblox suggests trying to swap 0 for O, 1 for I, 2 for Z, 5 for S, 6 for G or Q, and 8 for B. Also remember that Roblox doesn't refund gift cards, so keep the code secret and don't show it to anyone on a stream or in a message.

Way 3: Roblox Plus (formerly Premium)

On 30 April 2026 Roblox introduced the Roblox Plus subscription, and Premium stopped being available for new people. This is a big change, because Plus works differently than Premium.

What Roblox Plus gives you

• Discounts: 10% on in-game and avatar items, and 20% from the third month of subscription in a row.
• Free private servers in supported games (since 24 September 2026, one free server per game).
• Sending Robux without fees to other players.
• Trading and reselling Limited items.
• Publishing and selling your own avatar items.

In the April 2026 announcement Roblox gave a price of $4.99 per month. The amount in your local currency may look different, so check it in your account settings before deciding.

And where are the monthly Robux?

Roblox Plus alone doesn't give a monthly Robux allowance. If someone wants to get Robux every month, Roblox has the Plus 500, Plus 1000 and Plus 2000 bundles, which means a subscription plus 500, 1000 or 2000 Robux every month.

People who had Premium before the change can keep it along with the monthly Robux. However, from 30 May 2026 they lost the 10% bonus when buying extra Robux. If they cancel Premium, there's no way to go back to it.

Way 4: earning as a creator

This is the path for those who want to build something. Roblox lists three options:

• Your own game: anyone can build a game and earn Robux from it in several ways.
• Avatar items: you can sell them on the Marketplace and get a share of the profit (publishing requires Roblox Plus or Premium 1000/2200).
• Developer Exchange (DevEx): a program where creators exchange the Robux they earned for real money.

It's not a fast way to get Robux, but it's fully official and a lot of fun.

Gifts: sending Robux

Roblox Plus subscribers can send Robux to other people. The receiver doesn't need Plus. The rules are pretty strict, though:

• People under 16 need a linked parent account, and the parent approves every sending and receiving of Robux.
• There are limits: 500 Robux per day and 1,000 per month (with two-step verification turned on, 5,000 per day and 10,000 per month).
• A transfer can't be undone. Only send Robux to people you know.

Roblox also stresses something very important: it will never ask you to send Robux to someone "to verify your account". If someone writes that, they're a scammer.

Free Robux: why it's always a scam

Videos on "how to get free Robux", generator websites and games that promise Robux for typing in your login all have one thing in common: they want to take over your account. Roblox states clearly that there are no generators, tricks or codes for free Robux. Anyone who tries to cheat the system with fake purchase claims can even lose their account.

The most common traps:

• Robux generator: the site asks for your username and password or for "verification". You won't get Robux, but someone will get your account.
• Surveys and apps for Robux: they collect data or install junk on your phone.
• "Send me Robux, I'll give back double": a Robux transfer is irreversible, and there will be no giving back.
• "Roblox admin" in a private message: real promotions are announced by Roblox on its blog, in notifications or on a banner on the site.

How to secure your account so that even after a wrong click nobody can get into it, we describe in the Roblox account security guide. It's also worth reading the article on how not to get scammed when buying Roblox items.

No matter where you get Robux from, stick to one rule: your password and account codes are yours alone.
