Steal an Egg hatch time: how long eggs take and how to speed them up
Egg hatch times in Steal an Egg: from 10 seconds to 18 hours. A table of times by rarity, what affects growth and how to speed it up.

You stole a rare egg, carried it back to your base and... now you wait. In Steal an Egg, hatch time ranges from a few seconds to almost a whole day. Here you can check how long an egg of each rarity takes to grow, what it depends on and what you can do to make it go faster.
Items for Steal an Egg are in the DzikShop storeIn short: the rarer the pet, the longer it takes
The pattern is very clear. Based on the times on the pet pages of the Steal An Egg wiki (the Grow Time field), it looks like this:
| Rarity | Typical grow time |
|---|---|
| Common | 10-20 seconds |
| Uncommon | 25-30 seconds |
| Rare | 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes |
| Epic | 1-3 minutes |
| Legendary | 2-6 minutes |
| Mythic | 4-9 minutes |
| Cosmic | 8-30 minutes |
| Secret | from 1.5 to over 3 hours |
| Eternal | from 4 to 10 hours |
| Divine | from 12 to 18 hours |
These are times for regular eggs. The wiki doesn't list them for every pet from paid eggs and events, so we don't include those.
Times for specific eggs
A few examples from the wiki, from shortest to longest:
- Chicken: 10 s
- Dog, Frog: 15 s
- Raccoon: 50 s
- Bear: 2 min
- Brr Brr Patapim: 5 min
- Tiger: 6 min
- Leviathan: 25 min
- King Snake: 1 h 30 min
- Cerberus: 2 h
- T-Rex: 2 h 30 min
- Mutant Shark: 3 h
- Ice Dragon: 4 h
- Lava Dragon: 5 h
- Mosasaurus: 6 h
- Eternal Lunar Dragon: 7 h
- Oni Tiger: 8 h
- Gorilla King: 9 h
- Equinox: 10 h
- Unicorn, Kitsune: 12 h
- Nightflame: 16 h
- ArchAngel, World Burner: 18 h
One important thing stands out here: the best pets from the ranking can take up a slot in your pen for half a day. Keep that in mind when you plan which eggs to bring to your base. You can find the full list of pets with their income in the Steal an Egg pet ranking.
What else affects the time
Rarity is the main factor, but not the only one:
- Species. Even within one rarity, times differ. For example, among Cosmic pets, Whale Shark grows in 10 minutes and Royal Sphinx in 30.
- Size and mutation. According to AllThingsHow, a bigger size or a mutation can make a high-rarity egg grow longer. Nobody gives exact numbers.
So a huge egg with a good mutation is the most valuable, but it also usually takes the longest to wait for. We described how size affects income in the article about egg size and pet weight.
How to speed up hatching for free
The Grow All button
On the right side of the screen you have the Growing Eggs menu. According to AllThingsHow, there is a Grow All button there that pushes all growing eggs forward at once. It helps the most when your pen is full. The guide doesn't say how much time one click takes, so test it yourself on your own eggs.
Night in the game
In Steal an Egg, night falls every few minutes. According to two AllThingsHow guides, eggs already lying in the pen grow 30 times faster at night than during the day. The wiki doesn't list this number, but different guides describe the effect the same way.
Two practical things related to this:
- Put the egg down before night. The sooner an egg gets into the pen, the more night cycles it catches.
- Go back to a safe zone. According to AllThingsHow, when the night countdown ends, players outside the safe zone are sent back to the start.
Open right away (or wait on purpose)
A finished egg won't open by itself. When the counter reaches zero, an OPEN option appears in the Growing Eggs menu, and only then do you hatch the pet. Roonby writes that an egg may keep growing even after it's ready, but other guides don't confirm this. If you're hoping for a bigger size, check it on the egg's card before and after waiting.
Paid: the X2 Growth Speed gamepass
According to the wiki, the X2 Growth Speed gamepass costs 467 Robux and makes eggs grow twice as fast. You buy it once and it works permanently, on every egg.
In practice it looks like this:
| Egg | Normally | With X2 Growth Speed |
|---|---|---|
| Cerberus | 2 h | 1 h |
| Lava Dragon | 5 h | 2 h 30 min |
| Unicorn | 12 h | 6 h |
| ArchAngel | 18 h | 9 h |
At the start of the game, when eggs grow in a dozen or so seconds, the difference is small. You notice the gamepass most with Secret, Eternal and Divine eggs. It's an extra, not a must: you can play without it, you just wait longer.
The gamepass is also available at DzikShop. For delivery, all you need is your Roblox username:

How to plan hatching
A few rules that help you not waste time:
- Long eggs at the end of a session. Put down an Eternal or Divine egg when you know you're about to stop playing anyway. Hatch short eggs while you're active.
- Don't block all slots at once. If every slot holds an egg that takes several hours, you have nowhere to hatch new finds.
- Don't be afraid of long eggs with high income. We explain this with numbers below.
- Remember the Index. For getting each pet for the first time, the Index gives a reward in Speed and money. So even short, weak eggs make sense until you tick them off in the Index.
Is long waiting worth it? An example with numbers
Let's take two eggs from the same Prehistoric biome and one free slot:
- Bronto (Cosmic): 1.5M/s, grows in 11 minutes.
- Tralaledon (Secret): 32M/s, grows in 3 hours.
For the first 3 hours Bronto wins: it hatches after 11 minutes and by the end of the third hour it earns about 15B. In that time Tralaledon is only growing and gives nothing. But once it hatches, it earns more than 20 times more per second and makes up the whole gap in about 8 minutes. After that it's only ahead.
Conclusion: a long egg with high income almost always wins if you play for more than a few hours or leave the game running overnight. Fast eggs make sense when you play for a short time and want to see results quickly, or when you're collecting Index rewards.
If you're running out of room for new eggs, read when to sell pets in Steal an Egg. And if you're starting from scratch, begin with the beginner's guide.
