A mutation can turn an average pet into the star of your base. Rainbow multiplies income by 3.5, and some special mutations are not far behind. Below you will find every mutation described by the Steal An Egg wiki, with multipliers, chances and how to get them. Status as of October 2026.

Mutation, color and size are three different things

Before we get to the list, let's clear up one thing that confuses a lot of players:

  • Egg color is only decoration. It changes how the egg and the pet look, but not the income.
  • Mutation (sometimes called an aura) is an effect on the pet with its own income multiplier, for example the golden texture of Golden or the rainbow of Rainbow.
  • Size is the pet's weight in kilograms. It is rolled separately from the mutation, which is why you can get a huge pet with no mutation or a tiny one with Rainbow.

Size has its own article: egg size and pet weight in Steal an Egg. Here we focus on mutations.

All mutations and multipliers

Mutation Multiplier How to get it
Rainbow 3.5x hatch roll, 1 in 100
Parasite 3x Parasite Egg from the monster feeding event
Fractured 2.75x Mutation Shard from the Boss Shop, 10% chance on an egg
Scrambled 2.75x consumable mutation from the Experiment Shop, 10% chance
Golden 2.5x hatch roll, 4 in 100
Spirit Bloom 2.5x Sakura Incubator in Cherry Blossom
Bloom 1.25x Sakura Incubator in Cherry Blossom
Silver 1.2x hatch roll, 6 in 100

The first three "rolled" mutations (Silver, Golden, Rainbow) can be gotten by any hatched pet. The rest are special mutations: they won't show up on their own, you have to get them in a specific place or event.

How income with a mutation is calculated

The wiki gives a simple formula for a pet's final income:

final income = base income x mutation multiplier x size multiplier

Example: a Tiger earns 28K/s at base. The same Tiger with Golden earns 70K/s, and with Rainbow 98K/s, and that is before size is counted.

Fun fact: a pet can have more than one mutation, for example Golden and Silver at the same time. In that case the multipliers are not multiplied, they are added. The wiki describes it like this: you take 1 and add the extra part of each mutation above 1x.

  • Golden (2.5x) + Silver (1.2x) = 1 + 1.5 + 0.2 = 2.7x
  • Rainbow (3.5x) + Golden (2.5x) = 1 + 2.5 + 1.5 = 5x

According to AllThingsHow, you can't make these double mutations on demand, they just happen sometimes.

Special mutations step by step

Parasite (3x)

It comes from the monster feeding event (update 2 called it Hungry Frog, the wiki now describes it as Hungry Monster). From the Snow biome onward, infected eggs appear that glow purple. You steal such an egg and take it to the monster. Each feeding fills its belly by 20%, and at 100% the monster spits out a Monster Chest. The Parasite mutation goes to pets from a separate Parasite Egg from this event.

Fractured (2.75x)

It came with update 3 and the Rift event. For defeating the Overlord boss you got Boss Tokens, and the Boss Shop had a Mutation Shard. You walk up to an egg in your pen with it and have a 10% chance that the egg gets Fractured. It works on growing eggs and on ones that are already ready. The Boss Mastery track also had eggs that came with Fractured right away. According to the pet list, the Rift event is already over, so check in the game whether the Boss Shop is still available.

Scrambled (2.75x)

A mutation from the Dr. Scramble event (update 5). For destroyed drones you collect Samples, and in the Experiment Shop you buy the consumable Scrambled mutation for 475 Samples. Just like with Fractured, it has a 10% chance to work on an egg.

Bloom (1.25x) and Spirit Bloom (2.5x)

Both came with update 1 and the Cherry Blossom biome. They worked through the Sakura Incubator: you collected Sakura Crystals during the Great Bloom event, charged the incubator and put an egg in it. According to the wiki, the incubator is not active right now, and these mutations also showed up on random eggs during Admin Abuse.

Here the sources disagree. The wiki says that charging the incubator to the maximum doubles the chance of Spirit Bloom from 5% to 10%. AllThingsHow describes a 2.5% chance of Spirit Bloom and 97.5% of a regular Bloom.

Mutations we know little about

  • Monstrous. The update 2 notes mention that the Monster Chest has a rare chance of a limited mutation called Monstrous for monsters from the Titan Temple. The wiki does not give its multiplier.
  • Enchanted Mutation Shrine. According to Bloxodes, in the Enchanted Forest (update 7), after finishing the Wisp quest, a mutation shrine opens up, among other things. There are no details yet.

It is better to wait for solid data than to guess, so we are not giving any numbers here that nobody has confirmed.

Skeletal, Luminous and Mecha: these are not mutations

Paid eggs from the in-game shop use a different mechanic: the reroll. When an egg hatches, there is a small chance that the pet turns into a special version:

  • Mecha from the Monster Egg,
  • Luminous from the Luminous Egg,
  • Skeletal from the Extinction Egg.

These are separate pets with their own income, not a multiplier. A Skeletal Sabertooth earns 9B/s at base, while a regular Sabertooth earns 5B/s. According to the pet list, the reroll chance is about 1%. There is more about this in the article Extinction Egg: what you can get and the chances.

How not to waste a mutation

  • Don't put mutated pets into the Fuse Machine. According to AllThingsHow, the mutation does not carry over to the fusion result. You lose it together with the pet.
  • Don't sell blindly. Before you sell a pet, look at its card. A small pet with Rainbow can earn more than a bigger one with no mutation. The article when to sell pets in Steal an Egg can help with that.
  • Catch the Admin Abuse events. According to AllThingsHow, during these events there is usually a higher chance of mutations (often x4), along with better luck for rare eggs.
  • Use Mutation Shards on your best eggs. Since they only work 10% of the time, it makes sense to try them on eggs with a high base income, not on a plain Chicken.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best mutation in Steal an Egg?

Rainbow has the highest multiplier (3.5x). Among the special mutations, Parasite is the strongest (3x), followed by Fractured and Scrambled (2.75x each).

What is the chance of getting Rainbow in Steal an Egg?

According to the wiki, Rainbow has a hatch roll weight of 1 in 100. Golden has 4 in 100 and Silver has 6 in 100.

Is the egg color a mutation?

No. The egg color only changes how the egg and the pet look, not the income. A mutation is a separate trait, rolled when the egg hatches or added with special items.

Can a pet have two mutations at once?

Yes. The multipliers are then added, not multiplied: you take 1 plus the extra part of each mutation above 1x. So Golden with Silver gives 2.7x, not 3x.

Are Skeletal and Luminous mutations?

Not exactly. They are separate versions of pets from paid eggs, which come from the reroll (about 1%). They have their own fixed income and their own place in the Index.
